Growing and producing tea
provides a livelihood for millions of people around the world.
The Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP), is an organization, which
works to make sure that the tea you buy has been produced in a
socially responsible way.
The ETP uses independent monitors to check that tea estates
comply with local laws and union agreements and some
international standards. The monitors look at six important
areas:
- employment
- education
- maternity
- housing
- health and safety
- basic rights
They visit the tea estates, talk privately to workers and
trade union representatives, check records to make sure that
workers are receiving everything they should and that human
rights are respected. Monitors check health and safety
procedures and equipment, also hospitals, schools and crčches
on estates are visited to see that standards are maintained.
At “MK”, we believe in the ideology of the ETP, and take every
effort to ensure that a decent means of livelihood is provided
to each and every of our 30,000 strong work-force, which
constitutes the family of “MK”.
